Funeral services were held Friday, June 16th for Elmer Svane of Vashon Island, Washington, who passed away at the King County Hospital in Seattle, Washington on June 10th at the age of 45 years, 6 months and 27 days.
Life Sketch
Elmer Svane was born at Arlington, South Dakota November 4, 1904. He spent his childhood days on a farm near Arlington.
At the age of 18 he took a mechanical course at Kansas City, Missouri. As years went on and he grew to manhood he worked hard on many farms helping others faithfully and was never afraid of work, always doing his part at any task to be done and was honest in all his dealings. He also labored at the Ford Plant in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
At the age of 23 years, he met Mabel Langland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Langland of Vashon and on December 26, 1931 took her as his wedded wife. Six children were born to this union: Ronald, Donna, Patricia, Francis, Sharon and Marilyn.
In 1929 he was employed at Morrell's Packing Plant in Sioux Falls, South Dakota until 1942 when he became a resident of Vashon Island, Washington. Mr. Svane labored at Bremerton, Washington, Port Orchard and later as an assistant with Tom Steffenson as plumber and electrician. Three years ago he broke his left leg and spent six weeks at the King County Hospital in Seattle, unable to work there-after.
During this time cirrhosis of the liver set it. On November 16, 1949 he was admitted to the King County hospital at Seattle where he remained until January 10th. On June 8 he was suddenly stricken with hemorrhages and was again rushed to the hospital where he lingered until the morning of June 10, 1950. He was called to the Lord at the age of 45 years, 6 months and 27 years.
He leaves to mourn, his wife, six children, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Svane, Badger; six sisters; Mrs. Eric Ross, Mrs. Chris Moen, Mrs. John Fenske of Arlington; Mrs. Carl Sorenson, Sioux Falls; Mrs. Mathew Nielson at Brookings; Mrs. Allen Johnson of Detroit and one brother, Clifford Svane of Arlington, besides other relatives and a host of friends.
