- I am a descendant of Benjamin Frost (1800-1883). Before he married his cousin, Elizabeth Lawler, he was involved with Mary Maroney. Mary - or Molly as she was called, was the sister of John Maroney (or Meroney). Benjamin's sister, Rachel, married John.
Mary became pregnant and apparently did not tell Benjamin. She bore a daughter, Emily Meroney Frost, in 1819. There are records about this in Shelby co., AL. Benjamin took responsibility for Emily. There was some indication that he would have married Molly if he had known about the pregnancy. We will never know, of course. By all accounts, Emily was loved by her grandparents, her Mother and Benjamin.
Molly went on to marry Alden Byram and bore nine more children. She died in Shelby Co., AL sometime after 1873.
Emily married Henry Jefferson Hill in Shelby Co., AL about 1836. She bore 11 children. The Hills sold their farmlands in the 1850's, apparently following her father ond other family members to the West. They were in Garland, Dallas Co., TX in the 1860's. Emily's daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Hill, married Thomas Benton Fletcher on Christmas Day in 1866 in Garland. Sarah is my gg-grandmother. I have extensive information on this family.
I have spoken with Ruth Hollar Rickaway, author of "Benjamin Frost: A Texan from Tennessee", published in 1981. She had knowledge of Emily, but did not know what happened to her and did not include her in her book. Amazingly, my Aunt who began the genealogical research on our family in the 1960's lived in Conroe, TX. Ruth lives in Houston. How we wish they had found each other before the book was published!
